About Pamela

International Jazz singer, M.A. in voice and movement - experienced voice teacher, and movement therapist. She is a certified teacher of Skinner Releasing Technique and a Teaching Artist with Dances for a Variable Population in New York City.  Producer, co-composer, and recording artist with experience collaborating with Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Yusef Komunyakaa to create original performance piece and CD, Thirteen Kinds of Desire.

 

The power that Pamela's singing has to move an audience owes a lot to the acting experience which shaped her career. Pamela trained at the American Conservatory Theatre and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

 

After several years as an actress in New York, Pamela based herself in Europe, living in London, Paris, and Sydney. The wide-ranging appeal of her talent has taken her on a musical odyssey around the world. Her far-reaching jazz repertoire including original songs with lyrics by Pulitzer prize winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa, undeniable stage presence, and unique musical style, have taken her everywhere from famous Ronnie Scott’s in London, well known jazz clubs in Paris, to festivals in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Finland, Morocco, India, Turkey, Joe’s Pub in New York City, Chicago Humanities Festival, and The Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles.

 

She performed several  jazz broadcasts for BBC Radio London, ABC Radio Sydney and has been the featured artist with Radio New Zealand, with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

 

Pamela performed her latest work, Thirteen Kinds of Desire at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater in New York, The Chicago Humanities Festival, New York University, and Princeton University featuring pianist Helen Sung.

 

Pamela's first two self-produced CD's Love Dance and Boite de Jazz have received rave reviews which place her in the mainstream of today's outstanding jazz vocalists.

 

Her latest CD, Thirteen Kinds of Desire, is an intimate, provocative, compelling odyssey through song, revised myths and contemporary story telling produced, co-written and sung by Pamela with 13 original compositions set to the lyrics of Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet Yusef Komunyakaa.

 

Pamela established a jazz residency at Pisticci Restaurant in New York City featuring some of New York's finest players including Hyuna Park, Noriko Ueda, Helio Alvez, Art Hirohara, Tomoko Ohno, Takaaki Otomo, Gordon Webster, Kaori Yamada,  Brandi Disterhef, and many more.
